The Veil

Verse 12- Resurrection

Resurrection

Divine, Miraculous

Rescuing, Restoring, Redeeming

It tore the veil between God and man.

God and man were separated by sin in the tent of meeting and in the temple. That is what sin did, man could not be in God's presence as Adam or other selected individuals like Moses were. But when Jesus died, the literal curtain in the temple was torn as well as the spiritual veil.

“but he shall not go through the veil or approach the altar, because he has a blemish, that he may not profane my sanctuaries, for I am the LORD who sanctifies them.” Leviticus 21:23 (ESV)

And the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.
And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”
Mark 15:38-39 (ESV)

Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end. But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.
2 Corinthians 3:12-16 (ESV)

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, Hebrews 10:19-24 (ESV)
