Okay, we are getting to the encouraging part. God promised to fix everything by sending a savior and it is recorded so many times in the Old Testament, and below there are quite a few to check out.
As far as John the Baptist is concerned, he too was promised in the Old Testament:
“Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the LORD of hosts.
Malachi 3:1 (ESV)
John was Jesus' cousin, I find it interesting that God chose a family member and that he was 6 months older. Is there any significance to any of these things? Was there a “love for God” quality in this family that ran throughout?
