The Spirit of God Dwells In the Believer...
Thinking about that, really thinking about it, I wonder about the depth of its meaning. I wonder about the how while all the while understanding the why. The first mention I found of the Spirit of God dwelling in a human is in Genesis 41:38 - And Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find a man like this, in whom is the Spirit of God?” The following verses in the Old Testament also mention this idea. The part that makes me really ponder this is that that the gift of the Holy Spirit to all believers was not given until after the death, resurrection and ascension of Christ so why just a few men before those events? Possibly the answer is in finding out what, for the lack of a better term, the Holy Spirit's job is. HIs Spirit has always been among us one way or another. The answer for me as to why just select Old Covenant humans were given His Spirit is that it was all part of the plan. And as all good plans go, there are steps; step one in our time frame was creation and the last step is the second coming. The Old testament era was but another step in which He guided and comforted His people through men in whom His Spirit dwelt.
Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. Hebrews 1:1-4
Think about the the Spirit who spoke to mankind through the prophets and Christ the Prophet who spoke to mankind as the Spirit who then departed from the earth and left that same Spirit for us who believe. We live in the part of the plan where humans get direct access to the Creator and Father of all through Christ the Son – How amazing is that?
