October 15_09 The words we speak...Listen to your conversations for one week, what do you talk about?

I have been thinking about this a lot lately. I make TERRIBLE mistakes with my words. Other people do to. For me, I say unthinking mean things at times or I gossip. For others it is boasting , slandering or what have you. Sometimes I just talk too much and I talk about myself or my opinion for way too long. What about making promises or vows we can't keep?

The words we speak reveal what is in our heart. Ours words either feed people emotionally good food or starve them spiritually.

I want to think about my words and conversation. More than that, I want to replace the things in my heart which come out as poison or empty food.  I am listening to my conversations this week/month. I think more bible in my heart is in order.

Ecclesiastes 5:7 (ESV)
For when dreams increase and words grow many, there is vanity; but God is the one you must fear.

Ecclesiastes 6:11-12 (ESV)
The more words, the more vanity, and what is the advantage to man? For who knows what is good for man while he lives the few days of his vain life, which he passes like a shadow? For who can tell man what will be after him under the sun?

Proverbs 10:19 (ESV)
When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.

1 Samuel 2:3-4 (ESV)
Talk no more so very proudly, let not arrogance come from your mouth; for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed. The bows of the mighty are broken, but the feeble bind on strength.

1 Corinthians 3:21 (ESV)
So let no one boast in men. For all things are yours…

Jeremiah 9:23-24 (ESV)
Thus says the Lord: "Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord."

2 Corinthians 11:30 (ESV)
If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.

Galatians 6:14 (ESV)
But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ…

Psalms 19:14 (ESV)
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
